Welcome to “As I See It”
I’m happy to share time and space here with you.
I have been taking photos since my parents gave me a Kodak Instamatic camera for Chanukah. Maybe 1970.
There reached a point, 30+ years later, when I felt stuck. Photographically speaking.
After taking my 103,689th photo of the sunset, the thrill was gone. My skirt was not being blown up anymore. I wanted more than just to take photos. I wanted to present my photos. To show them, but I wasn’t feeling like I had a multi dimensional body of work to show. I had a lot of pretty sunset photos and landscape photos. Lots of photos of friends and family., but there was a cohesiveness that was missing. Something deeper to tie the images together. A story. A theme. And then…
In 2008, I became a student at the Santa Rosa Junior College. My aim was to get a Fine Art Certificate in Photography. There were 10 classes for that certificate, including two art history classes, sketching, three dimensional art, digital photography, photo journalism, classes working in the darkroom and advanced photography..I loved each and every class and I learned something from each and every class. I chose to take all five art history classes instead of the required two. I took advanced photography twice, cause I loved it so!
The biggest take away from that education was the concept of shooting in series. That was exactly what I was looking for. A different way to shoot, and to present my work.
Some of my pretty landscape photos and photos of friends and family are part of the different series that I have, but there is more. There is visual storytelling. And now, I’m adding words to my story..
The next few blog entries will explore the series that I have been shooting, and then, who knows where the storytelling will take us….I’m excited!
Till next time..
Be Well
