This Photographer's Challenge

Welcome back to “As I See It”.

For me, shooting pictures has always been second nature. My nature.

Natural.

I see the world around me as though I am looking through a camera lens. Images everywhere. Anywhere.

Images of sunsets, oceans, beautiful smiling faces. Ironic images. Humorous images. Geometric images. Abstract images. Images that tell a story of more than 1000 words.

I feel compelled to capture those images. To hold those moments. To tell those stories.

Except with cars. I have always felt challenged when shooting a car. I wasn’t able to capture a decent image, compositionally speaking. I have found it quite frustrating.

Until recently.

It was the Saturday before Halloween. My friend, Kathy, had come over the hill to hang out. We hit up our special place, Cafe Noto, for some coffee and unimpeccable gossiping. As we do.

I had brought my camera to shoot some images with my fuzzy purple handcuffs, which is a whole other story in itself.

While we were out and about, we noticed an increasing amount of classic cars cruising the Windsor Green. Beautiful well loved specimens of classic automobilia.

When the time came for Kathy and I to bid adieu, I got in my car and started to leave. I looked out to the green and saw that there were vendor booths being erected. I pulled back into a parking space to check out the wares.

It was the beginning of the set up for a Dia De Los Muertos celebration. As I walked through the green, I heard the cars approaching, Then, there they were. Their stage, a street bordering the green, designated for their presentations.

A scene ripe for this gal, whose camera was in her car.

I shot out over 160 images, and it felt so good. As it does when one is in the flow.

Many of those images were of the cars. And many of those images pleased and delighted me.

I hadn’t learned a new technique. I had just felt it differently, saw it differently, than I had before.

I’m looking forward to shooting more car images. Looking forward to seeing if I am still seeing cars in the new way.

My fellow photographers..  What have been your challenges?

Till next time,

Be Well
